Spring 2: May 15-June 5, 2026. 9:30-4:00 (come 10-15 minutes early to set up).
$240 for all 4 Fridays in each session or $70 paid in advance or $80 paid at the time of class. (Payment reserves your place). Beginning to advanced painters.

We will learn various skills to handle the delightful medium of watercolor along with drawing and connecting with ourselves, our art and each other . Students are invited to comment and question. If you have specific areas you want Winnie to cover, please let her know.

3-Day Summer Workshops:
June 15-17, 2026 - Basics of Watercolor. $305. 9:30-4:00 (come 10-15 minutes early to set up). Beginning-intermediate.The prerequisite is a desire to paint.
In this workshop we will play with watercolor, learning how to handle this delightful medium, including how to get vibrant colors, rich darks, soften edges and lift paint. We'll draw, learning to see as an artist sees. And begin to find our own voices. There is a lifetime of learning in art, and the best way to learn is to begin, and then continue. This will be a fun and inspirational workshop for beginning and intermediate painters. Some advanced painters have taken this workshop and found they learned skills they never knew they needed.

June 29-July 1, 2026 - Portraits in Watercolor. Class fulll-wait list only. $305. 9:30-4:00 (come 10-15 minutes early to set up.) Novice - advanced. Some experience with drawing or watercolor is required.
Once you find that you can paint a face, you may find that you can paint anything. Painting people is not so difficult (though getting a likeness is).  We’ll learn to paint faces from seeing how to draw the features through adding unexpected color for delightful portraits. Students always learn a great deal about paint handling, drawing and seeing in this workshop.

August 3-5, 2026 - Creating Textures in Watercolor. $305. 9:30-4:00 (come 10-15 minutes early to set up). All skill levels.
Everything has texture - the fur of cats & dogs, the shine of glass or a pot, the bark of trees, grasses, water. We will learn to see what makes something look the way it does. Then we’ll explore different techniques for painting and suggesting texture. We will learn how to use brush strokes and edges, along with sponging, splatter, stencils, stamps and granulating pigments. This will be a time to experiment and play.
As in all my classes, drawing, learning more about handling watercolor, and inspiration are included.

August 24-26, 2026 - Yupo with Watercolor. $305. 9:30-4:00 (come 10-15 minutes early to set up). Novice to advanced painters.
In this workshop we will be painting on Yupo, a synthetic paper. Unlike other watercolor papers, the paint sits on the top of it instead of soaking in. This creates brilliant colors and marvelous textures. To recover whites a damp brush can simply wipe the paint off the paper. This also makes it difficult to layer paint. In this workshop we'll play with some of the different techniques needed to work on this unusual paper and create exciting paintings.

Open Studio: Fridays June 12 - September 4, 2026 except July 4 and 11. Open Studio is not a class, but a time to paint with friends on Fridays during the winter break. 10-3:00 (Note: these hours are different from classes and workshops). Please come at 10:00.
Sign up ahead, but pay $10.00 at the time of class. If you have signed up and find you cannot come, let Winnie know. If you have signed up and she cancels an Open Studio, she will let you know.
Winnie provides a time and place to paint plus coffee & tea, but no instruction. She paints like everyone else. Bring whatever you want to work on. Everyone helps everyone else.

Friday Classes, Fall Session, October 16-November 13, 2026. $9:30-4:00 (come 10-15 minutes early to set up). $300 for all 5 Fridays or $70 paid in advance or $75 paid at the time of class. (Payment reserves your place). Beginning to advanced painters.
In this session, we will be playing with watercolor and drawing, increasing our skills in both. Through drawing we learn to see as an artist sees. Then there is the pleasure of discovering what watercolor can do, how it flows and blends, and, through understanding, how to both control and dance with it. Also included is connecting and inspiration. The specific focus for this session has yet to be decided. Please let Winnie know if you have requests.

Christmas Card Classes: Thursday, November 19, 2024 and Friday,  November 20, 2026. 9:30-4:00 (come a little early to set up). $75, Payment reserves your place. Beginning to advanced students. These are two separate classes, though you are welcome to sign up for both.
This class is so much fun - we play and experiment, making lots of little paintings for Christmas cards, which people love to get. And doing lots of paintings helps our skills grow. Winnie will guide the class through 1 or 2 cards to get our creative juices flowing. Glitter added at the end adds sparkle and performs magic on cards that don't meet our expectations.

International Painting Retreats
2026 - September 12-23, twelve days in Tuscany, Italy
Join Winnie Givot for a Painting Retreat to Tuscany! Our days will be filled with painting, drawing and notes added to the pages our watercolor journals. Whether you are an experienced painter or a beginner, this will be a delightful and inspirational, even transformational experience.

Our home will be Casale Testi, a lovely old villa near the hill town of Certaldo Alto.

Our host, Claudia, who works through La Meridiana, a nearby art center, will share her love of Tuscany with us. Day trips will find us in the hill towns of Siena, San Gimignano and Certaldo Alto, as well as the beautiful countryside filled with olive groves and vineyards. We’ll have a lesson at a winery followed by lunch and a wine tasting. And we’ll have dinner and music at a local music guild.

Some days we will paint at Casale Testi and many afternoons will be free for rest, relaxation, exploration and working in our journals. There is a freedom to journaling as we include small images and sketches, as well as larger ones, and record our impressions of a place, all the while seeing more deeply through our art.

Winnie will give daily lessons and individual help. This is an opportunity for art immersion as we play with color and texture, composition, writing and page embellishments, while connecting with the beauty around us. There will be lightheartedness and musings in our journals and our days. In the evenings we will eat exceptional meals specially prepared for us. Oh, the food and wine of Tuscany!
