Still LifeWinnie Givot's still life paintings are delightful. Vegetables from her garden, always a miracle in the high desert of Central Oregon, and objects from her collection, some handed down from earlier generations of her family, inspire her.
When painting still lifes, she paints directly from the objects in her studios and for the most part they stay still (some vegetables don't last long, but they don't move much, unlike people, animals and even flowers). She often sets up still life arrangements for classes in her Barn Studio so students can practice painting from life, seeing how to capture roundness, for example, or what makes an avocado look like an avocado. They are fun paintings to do. |
