LandscapeMany of Winnie Givot's landscapes are painted en plein air, that is on location, in sun and mist, wind and bugs and, oftentimes, with people observing.
Many of her recent "landscape" paintings are begun by pouring layers of watercolor paint on the paper, masking out each successive light layer, a lot like painting Ukrainian Easter eggs, which she did every Easter for many years. One year she camped in the Redwoods and painted some of those amazing trees, each of which has a different feeling. That trip had followed an anniversary trip with her husband after which she painted from photographs in her studio. A later trip again allowed her to paint these most remarkable beings again. Among of her favorite subjects are the Three Sisters which she observes from her deck at all times of the day and year. Winnie has painted in Italy, Greece, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and, of course, in many places in the USA, especially near her home in Central Oregon.
